Treating Doctor – Dr Virender Singh Sangwan

Vasu Singh, an 18-year-old from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, suffered a chemical injury to his right eye after an accident at his uncle’s shop. In an effort to protect his uncle from a falling bottle of hydrochloric acid, he took the impact himself leading to severe and unbearably painful eye damage.
Vasu initially underwent Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation (SLET) – an innovative stem cell treatment – in Kanpur, however, the procedure failed. He later came to Dr Shroff’s with complaints of pain, redness and constant watering in his right eye. His vision was severely impaired and at this point Vasu was barely able to count the nurse’s fingers held up in front of him. Under Dr Virender Singh Sangwan, he underwent a repeat SLET surgery which led to significant vision improvement in the right eye.
Vasu comes from a family with two brothers and a sister who is a doctor. He lives with his aunt and is currently aspiring to become an Income Tax Officer. He also has a history of kidney stones and is on medication.
Initially demotivated, Vasu found renewed hope and confidence after meeting Dr Sangwan, who encouraged him to focus on his goals with restored vision now on his side. He is extremely grateful for the treatment and support he received at SCEH.
