That day, I used the camera only to see, perhaps for the first time.
What appeared before me was not a direct, tangible image,
rather, it was a contemplative shadow absorbed within the glass of a door,
as though even light had paused
to consider how much of the scene it should permit.
Two surgeons were gently covering a wound beneath an eye
with skin taken from the same body -
with concentration and tenderness.
This was not just medicine,
it was as if they were reconstructing a love
that had slowly been eroding.
But I did not see this scene directly.
It existed only in the glass
where faces had turned into shadows,
and action into gestures.
Mirrors know how to turn even the harshest realities into poetry.

उस दिन मैंने कैमरे का उपयोग केवल देखने के लिए किया।
शायद पहली बार।
दरवाज़े के काँच में जो दृश्य उभरा,
वह सीधा नहीं था
बल्कि काँच के भीतर समाई हुई एक ध्यानमग्न छाया,
जैसे प्रकाश भी रुककर सोच रहा हो
कि वह दृश्य को कितनी अनुमति दे।
दो शल्य चिकित्सक
एक आँख के नीचे के घाव को को
उसी शरीर की त्वचा से ढंक रहे थे,
मनोयोग और ममता से।
यह केवल चिकित्सा नहीं थी
यह जैसे छीजते प्रेम का पुनर्निर्माण था।
पर वह दृश्य मुझे प्रत्यक्ष नहीं मिला।
वह काँच में था
जहाँ चेहरों की जगह छायाएँ थीं,
और क्रिया की जगह संकेत।
आईने निर्मम जीवन को भी कविता में बदलने का शऊर जानते हैं
