Mr Afzal, a 46-year-old man, had been struggling with complete vision loss due to mature cataracts in both eyes. His visual acuity was limited to only light perception (PL+) and accurate projection of rays (PR) in both eyes, rendering him functionally blind. Unable to perform his daily tasks or support his family, his life had become increasingly dependent on others.
Determined to regain his independence, Mr Afzal sought treatment at SCEH during a free medical camp. After a thorough evaluation, he was advised to undergo cataract surgery and, with hope in his heart, he proceeded with the surgery which was performed free of cost.
Following the procedure, Mr Afzal experienced a life-changing transformation. His vision improved significantly – 6/12 in the right eye and 6/9 in the left eye. For the first time in years he could see the world clearly again. Overjoyed, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the medical team, thanking them for giving him not just his sight but a new lease on life.
With renewed vision, Mr Afzal can now resume his work and provide for his family, reclaiming his independence and dignity. His story is a testament to the power of medical intervention and the impact of compassionate healthcare on people's lives.
