दीपावली | Diwali

The air is cooler the day after Diwali, with the roads a little quieter following the festival. I went to Dr Shroff’s by motorbike that day with the smoke levels being nowhere near what I remember. Namaste to the security guard at the gate.
Again – the waiting room seems quieter post-festival. Looking closer I noticed boys, aged from teens to twenties, all with similar black wounds around their faces. In OPD it was pointed out that this was a regular occurrence during Diwali, eye injuries from fireworks, sparklers and firecrackers.
The boys were accompanied by groups of families, brothers and sisters, all worried and waiting for verdicts on the severity of their injuries. They sat completely still, as though moving would hurt their chances.
