Nine-month-old Baby Sakina was brought to our hospital with a diagnosis of congenital glaucoma and corneal opacity in her left eye. Her parents first noticed an abnormality when she was just three days old, as her left eye appeared larger than normal and gradually developed opacity. Fortunately, her right eye remained unaffected.
Sakina underwent multiple examinations under general anaesthesia which confirmed the severity of her condition. Given the progressive nature of congenital glaucoma, early intervention was critical. Over the past few months, she has undergone several glaucoma surgeries aimed at relieving intraocular pressure and preventing further damage. Additionally, she underwent a corneal transplant, offering a chance for improved vision in the affected eye.
Despite these challenges, Sakina remains an active and cheerful child, adapting remarkably well to her circumstances. Her resilience and comfort post-surgery have been truly inspiring.
Sakina and her family live in a remote district of Uttar Pradesh, far from specialized medical facilities. The long journeys for treatment have been difficult, yet her family’s unwavering dedication to her care highlights their deep love and commitment.
Her journey is a testament to the importance of early diagnosis, advanced medical intervention, and the strength of a loving family. With continued care and follow-ups, we remain hopeful for her bright future.
